Rules Governing Attachments

From PCWiki
Jump to: navigation, search

This feature allows users to attach files, such as a log of a scanned hard drive, within the reply post. This Document will explain exactly what kinds of the most popular files can be attached and the limit imposed on the attachments. Please refer to this Document How to Upload Screen Shots and Images Into This Forum to learn how to attach a file or screen shot to a post.

Types of Files

The majority of the popular file extensions can be attached to a post. Some include:

- .txt (Text File)

- .doc (Document File)

- .jpg (Picture File)

- .gif (Animated Picture File)

Not all file extensions have been tested; however, two file extensions that cannot be attached are .docx files (Microsoft Office Word 2007 files) and .url files (website address files).

If you have a need to attach a .docx file, please first save that file as a Word document that is compatible with previous versions of Word (.doc file extension). If you need to attach an .url file, please simply provide the url within the body of the post.

Limits Imposed on Attaching Files

Once a file is attached, it can be placed in the post numerous times. There is no specific limitation to the number of attachments one can add to a post. However, there is a per attachment limit of 2MBs and a global limit of approximately 5MBs.
