The Question:
Recently I did a reformat and reinstall for my Toshiba Tecra 9100 laptop. Everything seems to work fine again, but after I downloaded and installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 and restarted the laptop, the screen suddenly shrank. A Windows Hardware Device Wizard also pops up, saying that 'there was a problem installing this hardware: S3 Graphics SuperSavage/IXC 1179. There's no driver selected for the device'.
(After a few tries of rebooting however, now the Hardware Device Wizard simply says there's a problem installing this hardware: Video Controller (VGA Compatible)).
I went to the Toshiba Support website at www.toshiba-asia.com/support/downloads/index.jsp and downloaded the display driver dated 5 Mar 2003. However I cant seem to open the downloaded zip file; WinZip describes it as a bad Zip file. I have tried downloading a number of times.
Any ideas how to go about this? Thanks!
The Answer:
When I went to the Toshiba website and searched for a Toshiba Tecra 9100 "Portable", I got a different date for the display driver. They show a version 12.90.56 dated 3/5/2002 and it is 1.74MB in size. Starting the initial stage of the download, show the file name of t910vdx.exe.
Here is the Link
The file extension indicates it may be a self extracting zip file. Put the file in a separate folder and double click on it. It should self extract. A zip utility does not usually work on this type of file.
